Investing Time Machine (ITM)

Quick Start:

• The ITM web app is a trading simulation and can be found at itmapp.hkubs.hku.hk.
• ITM is optimized for a relatively wide screen size for optimal use. Please maximize the browser window when using ITM.
• In case of unexpected behavior, you can press the CTRL+ALT+R keys to reset the app.

The basic idea of the ITM app is to let users practice and assess their trading/investing skills within the app before putting real money to work. It is a trading simulation where you can go back in time to relive a certain part of financial history, make investing decisions within that context, and receive immediate feedback on your investing performance. Thus the name "Investing Time Machine" (ITM).

ITM contains technical and fundamental analysis. For example, the Hidden Markov Model is a nice feature to test whether the stock is in an up- or down-trend. It can be activated in the app by clicking the Settings button (the one with the little gear wheel).

You can trade stocks and ETFs from around the world. By default we have included stock symbols from the S&P 500, but you can manually enter any stock or ETF symbol available on Yahoo Finance.

ITM is developed at HKU Business School, University of Hong Kong (HKU). The project coordinator is Dr. Matthias Buehlmaier. The ITM web app is supported by the HKU Knowledge Exchange Fund (2018/2019 Knowledge Exchange Impact Project Scheme) granted by the University Grants Committee.
